A Continuing Education Course for Veterinary Technicians

Veterinary dentistry is an essential aspect of animal healthcare. As a licensed veterinary technician that has specialized in in dentistry, it is crucial to have a good understanding of dental procedures, radiology, and anesthesia protocols to provide the best possible care for our furry patients. That’s why I, Lauren Beck LVT VTS (dentistry), am excited to announce the upcoming introduction to veterinary dentistry in radiology course, a continuing education course for veterinary technicians.

Dental Health in Veterinary Care

In veterinary medicine, dental health is often overlooked, but it plays a crucial role in the overall well-being of our animal companions. Just like humans, pets can suffer from dental issues such as tartar buildup, gingivitis, periodontal disease, and can be suffering in silence if their dental health is not properly maintained. Regular dental cleanings, radiographs, and oral exams are essential to prevent and treat these conditions, ensuring that our patients can live healthy and happy lives.

By investing in continuing education courses like the introduction to veterinary dentistry in radiology, veterinary professionals can stay up-to-date on the latest techniques and best practices in dental care. This knowledge allows us to provide the highest standard of care for our patients, promoting not just their dental health but their overall well-being.

This comprehensive course will offer eight hours of continuing education credit, focusing on important topics such as abbreviations used during dental charting, instruments used during dental cleanings, radiograph positioning, and safety precautions. Martin Kennedy, DVM, Dipl. AVCAA  will also be leading a two-hour discussion on anesthesia, covering drug selection and patient monitoring to ensure optimal safety during procedures.

Lauren Beck’s Training

I have worked as veterinary technician since I graduated from college in 2009. I spent several years in general practice working as a dentistry technician. After that I went on to work in a dental specialty clinic and specialize in veterinary dentistry. I have been teaching the proper technique to achieve diagnostic dental radiographs for over 10 years and I am now expanding my teaching to cover multiple other important aspects of veterinary dentistry.

Introducing Dr. Martin Kennedy

Dr. Kennedy is a Board-Certified Veterinary Anesthesiologistâ„¢ that earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin. After completing a rigorous internship and residency he headed the anesthesia service at a multi-specialty referral practice in Cincinnati. He then served as an associate professor of anesthesia & pain medicine at the University of Minnesota before joining Your Pet Dentist. Dr. Kennedy specializes in total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA), managing high-risk patients, multimodal pain control, and teaching anesthesia. He has been helping train the doctors and technicians in our group for over a year now and is an incredible teacher.
